But one other thing that I have noticed, there has never been a SMC update for the 2008 iMac, which is strange as I am beginning to think its a firmware problem? I've posted on other forums for help and people have just ignored me. I was told by the apple repair company that my iMac is fine and all my hardware has been checked and is working perfectly. Reset SMC millions of times in different ways and by the book (what apple recommends), reset nvram, pram. I have reinstalled osx, updated, downgraded, hardware tested, handed it in for repair - no errors found. They had the iMac for two weeks and apparently they have tested it to the 'max' and they can't recreate the fan issues I am having - from my point of view this is really annoying as the iMac fans play up everytime I wake up up from sleep or they just come on really fast at 3999rpm at random - even when my CPU is really low and I have nothing running, I've been checking the temperatures that the fans come on at an there isn't really any pattern, they come on when they feel like it! And its only ever the top vent, the cpu fan that comes on. I took the iMac into an authorised reseller to get it repaired. Finally last month the fans drove my up the wall that much I decided to try and see what the issues are. It started a year after I bought the iMac, after then my warranty was up so I'm kinda stuffed. Thank you for a Macbook saving program, fans are a lot cheaper that replacing a logic board.I have an early 2008 iMac (8,1) and I am experiencing CPU fan issues where the fan would instantly and randomly rev up really high and fast to 3999 and stick there until I put it to sleep and wake it up or shut it down completely.

My fans will adjust almost instantly when changing profiles. Right click on this display and it will bring up it’s menu. Look up in your menu bar icons (date-time, battery status, wireless) upper right corner of your display. When you double left click on the SMC Fancontrol the program will run. The bottom is just a little bit warmer but not anywhere close to the blistering temperatures before. I can lay my hand on the top surface and over the speaker grills and the heat is only slightly warm. The following are indicated by iStat Pro with my fans running at 3500 RPM: HD 97F, CPU 115F, Airport Card 125F, Enclosure Base 88F, GPU 135, GPU Heatsink 115, Heatsink A 113F, and Heatsink B 103.Īs you can see my Macbook Pro is running considerably cooler than without SMC Fancontrol.

When I am not playing games and multimedia I setup a higher rpm profile that keeps my fans turning at 3500 rpm. The GPU diode used to run up to around 165F and now is hovers between 125F and 130F. When I am watching movies or playing games I setup a multimedia profile that runs my fans to 6000 RPM. Additionally, my Macbook Pro is quite a bit cooler to the touch. My Macbook Pro is running a lot cooler and now I have no worries about overheating. SMC Fancontrol is a fantastic program and works as designed.
